Shane Rebenschied grew up in Oak Creek Canyon just north of Sedona, Arizona. After graduating in 1998 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Shane and his family lived in California while he began his career as a freelance illustrator. He has recently turned his attention to painting in oils which has caught the attention of collectors worldwide. A native of the American Southwest, Shane paints a myriad of subject matter from landscapes to still lifes to birds. Shane and his family currently live on the North Island of New Zealand where he also paints the local landscape and wildlife.

Artist Statement

 

“Each time I work on a new painting I like to think of little challenges in order to keep pushing myself. Sometimes the challenge is to use a large(ish) flat brush (my least favorite kind because it feels hard for me to control) or sometimes the challenge is to push the color saturation further than I think it needs to (I tend to want to desaturate colors or be too “truthful” to the photo reference). As one of the main reasons I’m doing this Just Keep Painting Project is to continually push myself out of my comfort zone. I think these challenges are important to not end the year in the same place I started.
